“Other Majik,” 2016 Installation View- Right Window
Originally intended as a witchy feminist exploration of shadow work, this piece for me reflected the political climate as the Democratic Party ruptured itself along generational lines to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
The Witch has her back to the street and the passerby, but if you’re looking for it and get the angle just right you will see her face reflected in the Shadow Witch’s mirror-face, or the convex safety mirror propped against the wall. The Witch and the Shadow Witch are melting into each other. Off to the side “the small glass” served as a map. The far wall was covered in silver paper dipped in reflective glass beads. A small witch like figure reminiscent of compass needle points north to the phases of the moon: new, crescent, full.
This installation was comprised of ceramic sculptures, safety mirrors, a small disco ball, glass beads, epoxy, plexiglass, acrylic paint, wood, awkward self consciousness, fear, puns, answered prayer, aluminum leaf, thumbtacks and monofilament.
